Ladies and gentlemen, Jesse Williams. (re: Mike Brown, racism)

He’s more than just a gorgeous face, Everybody.

He’s more than just an actor.

This man is a force and is extremely vocal and knowledgeable on social issues. And today, he gave a lesson on Twitter.

I don’t think I need to say anything else.  There’s not much to add.

However, I would advise that everybody who is so vigilant in their defense of Darren Wilson take a long and strong look at the questions he posed, here.  They are necessary ones.

The displays of disregard for a black life that have been displayed have been so troubling and heartbreaking.

And, like Jesse asks here…WHY?

My Thoughts: 2014 Houston Margarita Festival (review)

Those were my general thoughts throughout my entire experience. Let’s start at the beginning.

The 2014 Houston Margarita Festival took place Saturday, October 25th, from 2:00pm – 10:00pm at Discovery Green.  So let’s just hop right on into this.

My friend and I arrived there around 3:20pm.  When we walked up, there was a line to the entrance that was FOREVER long.  And I am not exaggerating. But then there was a separate line for those who purchased tickets from Groupon or Living Social (ours was from Living Social). So I was like COOL.

Until I followed that line around a corner. Y’all.  The line was literally wrapped around the block.  It was HORRIBLE.  That’s so childish. There’s no reason for that.  We got in line around 3:30pm and made it to the front of the line (not inside) around 4:17pm. RIDICULOUS. You KNEW to expect a crowd. You are well aware of how many tickets you put out and sold. Come on.

Then, as people have stood in line for basically forever, THAT is when they decided to have some volunteers come out and tell people that there was actually a separate line for those who have Groupons.  So if you’d been standing in the Living Social line, you had to get out and go get in the back of the line for Groupon.

There were no ropes, no barricade, no nothing to control the line.  Once you got toward the front, it was basically like a big group.

So just when I was about to rejoice at the fact that we were about to get in, my friend reminded me about drink tickets. And pointed out that the same people who were in the forever long line outside, would then need to get in a line for drink tickets inside.

I was like..

See. The only way to be able to get a drink is to use a drink ticket.  The only way to get a drink ticket is to purchase them from drink ticket booths.

There were three booths.

The number of people expected at this festival was around 20,000.

And, just as he said, once we got inside the festival, there was a massive line at the ticket booths.

(I may or may not have refused to stand in yet another line and decided to cut A LOT of people. I may or may not have done that.)

Or better yet, why not accept cash/cards at the booths? CHILDISH!

Okay. So let’s discuss these tickets. Each ticket was $2.00. Regular margaritas were 3 drink tickets ($6) and “premium” margaritas were 4 drink tickets ($8).

The cups were 6 oz.

So.  That’s 6oz of margarita for $6.00 or $8.00.  After standing in lines for approximately a total of 3 hours to get your drinks in the first place (there were also MASSIVE lines to get drinks).  Then there were booths for Lime-a-Ritas, Straw-Ber-Ritas, and Raz-Ber-Ritas.  Each one of those was 2 tickets. $4.00. EACH. For the SMALL can.  They are $1.00 each at Kroger!!!??? I mean COME. ON.

Oh. And one of the water booths ran out of water.  This was around 5:30pm.

Then, at some of the booths, they had machines and there came a point where you had to wait for the machines to freeze the margaritas.  That took 20 minutes.

Everywhere you turned, it was people, people, and more people. People everywhere.

So what was good about the festival? For me, it was the company, the weather (it was so nice!), and the DJ (at times). Also, the food smelled and looked REALLY good (I didn’t eat there this time, but last year it was good). You could pay for the food with cash/cards.

This is the third year for the Houston Margarita Festival.  And it’s time to reevaluate.  Anytime you have a crowd of 20,000 people, it’s time to plan better and make it a wee bit more convenient.  Nobody wants to stand in a line to get in for almost an hour and then go inside to stand in another line for tickets for almost an hour and then stand in another line for a drink for almost another hour.

Nobody wants to do that.

It’s a really cute set-up, but it may be time to move it away from Discovery Green.  I mean, this is a good problem to have.  It means that the event has grown.

But in my honest opinion, it simply wasn’t worth it.  I didn’t pay full price for the tickets, but I can’t imagine paying $25 just to get in, and then having to pay $6-$8 a pop for a 6oz drink (which some argued were extremely watered down).  There is no benefit, here. It was crowded, and people were uber frustrated.

Better luck next year!

Tiny (Tameka Harris) permanently changes her…eye color?

I saw some rumblings about this earlier, but I didn’t think there was anything to it. But then I saw this:

Of course, I went to check it out. And of course the picture has been deleted.

So. We’re out here changing our eye color, huh?

So. Surely her husband can give some clarity, right?

This week, during a visit to the Breakfast Club Morning Show, DJ Envy attempted to get clarity on the rumors by asking T.I. if Tiny really permanently changed her eye color. TI responded:

I don’t know. I don’t know. If she’s coming up here for something maybe you can ask her but I don’t know.

So. Her husband doesn’t know if she… you know what? Nevermind.

I’m actually waiting (hoping) that something comes out and says this is all a bad joke, but until then, SMH.

Houston News: Man rapes 2 girls (one was under 2), gives them HIV

I’m disgusted and heartbroken.  I don’t even know what else to say…

A registered sex offender is accused of raping two girls, including an infant family member, and infecting them with HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

David R. Wilson, 33, is charged with sexually assaulting his niece, who was just under 2-years-old at the time, as well as the 14-year-old daughter of his ex-girlfriend.

In both cases, the victims were infected with HIV and herpes. The infant also was diagnosed with chlamydia, law enforcement officials said.

The investigation that led to Wilson’s arrest began in November 2013 when the younger child was brought to the Texas Medical Center because of a suspicious growth on her genitals.

Lab tests later confirmed the sexually transmitted diseases.

Because of the infections, doctors had to perform genital reconstruction surgery on the child, authorities said.

Hospital officials told Houston police investigators it was clear the child had been sexually abused.

HPD investigators questioned four family members, including Wilson, who had regular contact with her. Wilson’s sister is the younger child’s mother. Authorities said the younger child’s mother and father live out of state and aren’t involved in her life.

Detectives asked the four to volunteer to be tested for sexually-transmitted diseases. Each complied and only Wilson’s test results came back positive for HIV. He also told police he had been treated in the past for chlamydia, officials said.

In September, the 14-year-old girl told a caseworker at the Children’s Assessment Center that she had been having sex with Wilson and was pregnant.

The teenager also tested positive for herpes and HIV, officials said.

Wilson is charged with super-aggravated sexual assault of a child and sexual assault of a child. The enhanced charge is because of the age of the younger victim, officials said.

He was charged Wednesday and was in custody early Thursday.

In 2004, Wilson was sentenced to four years in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting another 14-year-old Houston girl, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety‘s sex offender registry.

He is being held without bond at the Harris County Jail. He is scheduled to make a court appearance early Friday, officials said.

Those poor children.

Now, I understand due process and such. I get it. But I’m finding it very hard to be okay with even a single red cent being spent on this guy.

I understand that he was in jail 10 years ago, but why give him, a registered sex offender, private access to your child, let alone your INFANT/TODDLER? All in all, the blame is on David Wilson, here. I just don’t get how he was even able to be around the baby.

In another observation, I made the mistake and went to the comments section on this particular post.  Here is one of the most disturbing comments I saw:

If Obama had a son…

How awful. Automatically comparing an imaginary son of President Obama’s to a RAPIST and SEX OFFENDER? How vile and hateful.

There are also other comments asking where are the “riots” in support of David Wilson.  SMH. Some of you just don’t get it. And that’s so very sad.

My thoughts on “Scandal” (so far).

So. I was questioned by a loyal reader as to why this hasn’t happened yet.  It was a simple, “So are we not doing reviews on “Scandal” or…” that was laced with a demand.  So here we are.

The reason I haven’t done them is because I have class on Thursdays, and since Shonda decided to give us THREE amazing shows back to back to back, I barely get the chance to watch Scandal until the weekend, if not a week later.  Seemed like it wasn’t something y’all wanted that much later. BUUUUUT I see I was wrong.

Here we go.

Four episodes have gone by (Randy, Red, Superfreak, and Julia (1), The State of the Union (2), Inside The Bubble (3) and Like Father, Like Daughter (4)). These are my general thoughts thus far.

The only thing I could focus on during the first show is the fact that EVERYBODY’S hair (except for Liv’s) was a HOT MESS. Abby, Cyrus, Fitz…it was ATROCIOUS! MY WORD.  Watching the fourth episode (last night!) all of this got better. Amen.

Speaking of hair, I know y’all saw that scene where Liv woke up from her sleep with her hair all in tact and not wrapped? Yeah. Fellas, don’t be fooled. Black women don’t sleep like that, okay?

liv and jake

That beach chair scene (yes, from episode 1 LOL)?? It had me clutch my pearls and cheer for sheer joy at the same dayum time. Here. For. It. Yes.

Now. By episode two (I think), Jake flipped the script on Liv.  I saw some people say he was being mean. And NOPE. He was being REAL. He still wanted her sex, but was emotionally detaching from her. And can you blame him? The man knows that all Fitz has to do is put up a distress signal and BOOM. She’s gonna be right on back to whoring it up.

So yeah. I don’t blame him.

The dinner with Daddy Pope tho? Whew. Bold.

One more thing.

“I’m the one you like to ride….” <— I don’t know why Liv doesn’t love this man or how he was able to get even one more syllable out of his mouth after this cuz….

liv and fitz

So I’ve said that I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO tired of the back and fourth. But in last week’s episode when Fitz asked her if he had failed as a man and was trying to undress her? Something inside of me was just like YASSSSSSSSSSS!!!! I couldn’t help myself.

I’m just not sure where else this could go. But now since Liv is about to find out Fitz has Jake…whew.

This child is getting on  my very last nerve. I mean really. You aren’t Liv.  Nor will you ever be.  You’re mad. Ok. But you gotta get over it, ma’am. You gotta let that hurt go. It’s making you look real silly. Like REALLY silly. Stop it. Even Cyrus had to read her. SMH

HOWEVER.  Her little talk with Mellie was THE BUSINESS.  I think that was one of my favorite parts of the show. I also liked how she tried to save Mellie from continuing to embarrass herself in that meeting. So yeah. I guess Abby has done some good.

Ummmm was anybody other than myself thinking that Fitz was about to try and sleep with Abby during a certain scene???

and speaking of mellie…

Like…I get it. What you’ve been through is a TRAGEDY. But what I NEEEEEEEED you to do is to get some intense therapy and to be able to FUNCTION.

Oh. But when she and Fitz were going back and fourth about their daughter? And Fitz read her for FILTH!?!?  My goodness. I was like DAYUM.

And he was right. He lost a child too, and had to deal with that, still be the president, AND deal with a wife who is falling apart daily.

Buuuuuuuuuut then Mellie hit him with, “Well I guess she takes after her daddy.” <— OOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m just wondering how long we’re gonna have to deal with Smelly Mellie.  *shrugs*

the devil

Cause that’s what he is.

I’m over him being alive and well. Like, how does he possibly manipulate EVERYBODY? How can this be?

And how is it possible for Fitz to be so stupid to get him to get the “truth” out of Tom? Like…what is going on?

But I guess the devil IS a master manipulator, huh?

Cyrus. Cyrus. Cyrus.

Silly silly silly delusional man.

I just REALLY hope that he knows what’s going on and has a trick (pun intended) up his sleeve. Cause….yeah.

Looks like he’s become what he’s despised in the past, huh? He’s not ready for this life, tho.

Still want her dead. She came in and was like, “nobody missed me?” MA’AM. NO. Nobody missed yo flip flopping azz. DEAL WITH IT.

But I guess she’s being of some use so I’m not opposed to her still having breath for now. Ugh.

We’re going to see him again.

This is my hunch.

I could me wrong.

I have zero supporting information.

But yes. I think he (Columbus Short) will be back.

*So. I’m sure I’ve missed a lot in here, but I wasn’t about to go through (almost) 4 hours worth of detailed info. LOL  Like I said, these are my general feelings so far. I’m just glad that I’m all caught up (for now)!
