Transgender. Bathrooms. Hysteria.

This isn’t going to be a research or sources filled post, as I am here simply to insert my small voice into this whole gender neutral bathroom debate/discussion.

Well, I will give one source. And that is just so you can see exactly what President Obama said about transgender access to bathrooms.

Here are my thoughts.

1.

I need all of my Christian brothers and sisters to PLEASE stop acting like the office of President of the United States is one that is spiritual/biblical. It is not.

You cannot get in front of a legal entity arguing points of morality/spirituality and win. You WILL lose. I guarantee it. Constitutional law. <—- THAT is how decisions are made by a presidential administration.

Also, President Obama is a politician. Stop it with your unrealistic expectations. Y’all have been doing that for almost 8 years now. It’s time to stop it.

2.

I need all of my Christian brothers and sisters who are registered as Democrats to stop acting shocked, appalled, and befuddled.

Um.

When was the last time you took a peak at the agenda of the Democratic party? LOL. I mean, really? This….shouldn’t have surprised you. AT ALL.

3.

Understand this. The message that is being put forth in the United States of America is that YOU. DO. NOT. GET. TO. DISCRIMINATE.

Against ANYONE. No matter your faith or beliefs, you don’t get to tell people what they should and should not do.

Personally, I don’t quite understand how bathroom labels, in and of themselves, are discriminatory…but when it gets to the point where you are saying “only” this person or “only” that person can use a certain facility, well then yeah. That’s where discrimination becomes a thing (I think?).

4.

I understand the dissent. In fact, if I’m keeping it all the way one hunnid with y’all, the ONE thing that made me lean toward “NOPE” to Houston’s H.E.R.O. initiative was the incessant focus on the bathroom issue. Because, like many of you, the first thing that came to mind is, “So wait….a man can be in the bathroom with me, and it not raise any eyebrows?” And that wasn’t directed toward trans men, but men who recognize and believe they are men. It makes me uncomfortable.

The argument against that is that it is already illegal for men to harm women in bathrooms. And yes, that is true. This initiative doesn’t change that law. What was illegal before transgender access to bathrooms is STILL illegal. But in the back (front?) of my mind, I am uneasy because it seems to give MORE access and ease for the illegal to happen.

I am entitled to that. As are others who feel the same.

As a single woman who basically goes everywhere by herself, it is dangerous out here. So anything, ANYTHING, that I see that can threaten my safety even the slightest bit gives me pause.

I don’t apologize for that.

But then…there’s number 5.

5.

This one is going to be long. And it’s probably gonna be a bunch of rambling. But it’s also my truth so…

Many times I feel like people of faith focus on the symptom and not the issue. For example. With gay marriage, Christians were acting and reacting as if legal gay marriage was going to *make* people gay. Or even if it wasn’t legal it was going to somehow shield them from gay folks. Both of those things are lies. Focusing on the symptom, and not the issue.

I’ve also heard preachers scream across the pulpit that we’re living in a time where “any and everything goes.” Please understand that we’ve BEEN living in those times. God gave us free will. People have BEEN partaking in behavior that is considered sinful for…well…FOREVER. Literally! Forever. Adam and Eve, anybody?

As a Christian, my message to EVERYBODY is that God took His time with you. He made you as He intended. You ARE fearfully, wonderfully, beautifully made, just like you are, with either your XX or XY chromosomes. Your breasts, your penis, your vagina, your bone structure, hips, neck, adam’s apple…ALL of it. God did it all and He wanted it JUST for you. You ARE NOT a mistake. HE did EXACTLY what HE wanted to do with you, and HE looked at YOU and said in HIS eyes, you are worthy of EVERYTHING He has to offer You during your time on this earth.

But even in my firm belief in that, I am aware of a few things.

I am aware that not all trans people believe in God.

And while I do believe there are some people who use transgender lifestyle for attention seeking, I am also aware that there are those who sincerely and adamantly feel as if God made a mistake with them.

I can preach and tell you God loves you just as you are until I pass out, but the truth of the matter is that I have NO idea what that feels like. I do not know what it feels like to be disconnected with something I have to live with for my entire life.

No, this reality doesn’t change my belief, but it DOES make me a person who recognizes that there are people who struggle with gender identity. It makes me take a look at myself and deal with the fact that I’ve never had to wonder which bathroom I should use, and if I’m going to get crazy looks for going to my designated facility. These are things I have never had to worry about.

So yeah. Burying your head in the sand and saying “everybody should stay the gender they are and use their assigned bathroom facilities” isn’t going to cut it. The world isn’t going to stay the same just because you refuse to acknowledge what’s going on.

While I’m here, let me say this. For this to be an issue in elementary and middle schools? THAT is disturbing. I fully believe adults (and developmentally appropriate aged teens) get to live the lifestyle they desire, but DO NOT talk to me about a 5 or 6 year old wanting to use a specific facility because they identify as the opposite gender than what they are. Maybe I need to do more reading/research. Maybe I’m just wrong or whatever. That’s fine. I’ll be that. But leave me alone about it.

Anyway, I don’t have the answers. I don’t know how to reconcile the very real fear/anxiety/uneasiness some have with gender neutral bathrooms. All I can say is that we are all sharing space. The law is the law, and we’ve all gotta learn how to adjust and make the absolute best of said adjustments.

That’s all I’ve got.

By the way: Gender neutral bathrooms are everywhere. At my job, there are big bathrooms that have multiple stalls and are for women/men, and then there are single bathrooms around that are just first come first serve. Not sure why public schools wouldn’t just put in more of those?

I dunno. Just felt the need to put this on here again…just in case anybody was wondering. 🙂

God took His time with you.

Caitlyn Jenner is thinking about being Bruce Jenner again. ALLEGEDLY.

You know how it goes.

Sources here, sources there, sources EVERYWHERE!

Well, this particular author is saying that Caitlyn isn’t happy and has regrets.

Ian Halperin, the author of “Kardashian Dynasty: The Controversial Rise of America’s Royal Family,” said that, while researching his book, multiple sources told him that the former Olympian had been miserable for months and has considered transitioning back to a man.

The Wrap

Hm.

Here’s more:

Halperin said that one long-time friend told him that, while Jenner was “thrilled” to champion transgender issues, the reality TV personality could de-transition “in the next couple years.”

Jenner’s representatives have not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment. However, a representative for Jenner denied Halperin’s claims, telling Gossip Cop that Halperin’s  assertion is the “dumbest statement of the day.”

“It hasn’t been easy for Caitlyn, it’s been very hard,” the friend said, according to Halperin. “She’s thrilled she has raised awareness about how transgender people have long been discriminated against but I think there’s a chance she’ll de-transition in the next couple years. I don’t think it would surprise anybody in her inner circle. It has been much harder than she anticipated. My heart goes out to her and I know her true friends will be there to support her on whatever path she chooses.”

According to Halperin, multiple sources close to the Kardashian family told him that Jenner might revert back because she retains her interest in females.

Okay so look. Stand up if any of this news is shocking to you.

Me:

Everything that Bruce has done to become Caitlyn is reversible. I knew something was up when a doctor made it a point to state that early on in Bruce’s transition process. This kind of stuck with me because of the resources available to Bruce go through with everything. I know a lot of transitioning individuals don’t go through with the surgery because they can’t afford it. That’s definitely not the case, here.

Also, I’ve always found the “raised awareness of transgender issues” that Caitlyn has been saying. I…I don’t know. It just seems like that didn’t really happen (in my opinion). Caitlyn has unlimited resources to do whatever. AND this is a person who said Donald Trump would be “very good for women’s issues.”

But I digress.

Again, these are “sources” and a bunch of “he told her who told him who then told me” situations, but still…it isn’t shocking to me at the very least.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see, huh?
