Baylor University Coach Art Briles says he had no knowledge of Sam Ukwuachu’s violent past

This is getting weird.

As I posted last night, there are some questions as to when Baylor University knew about defensive end Sam Ukwuachu raping a (then) student athlete in 2013 and when they knew about his violent past at his previous school, Boise State (from what I read, Ukwuachu stated that Baylor knew “everything.”). I suggest you read the above link (if you haven’t already) to get some sort of timeline.

Well, Baylor University’s head football coach, Art Briles, has come out to say that he was not given any information about Ukwuachu’s violent past at Boise State.

Briles said Friday that he spoke with then-Boise State coach Chris Petersen personally and was not informed of any prior violent incidents prior to accepting Ukwuachu’s transfer to Baylor in 2013.

“No mention of anything beyond Sam being depressed and needing to come home,” Briles said. “So that was our information. And that’s what you go by.”

Briles called Ukwuachu’s conviction “unfortunate for everybody concerned,” and he reiterated that the defensive end had been taken off the roster before he ever played or practiced with the team.

“Our timeline was followed by what the standards were here,” Briles said. “When the incident happened, he’s off the roster. Never played a down for us. So it’s a very unfortunate situation for all concerned. That’s all I’ve got to say about it.”

Okay.

So let’s say this is true, and I’m leaning to it being just that (yes, I recognize my bias).

The problem I am STILL having is the timeline of the rape that happened THERE. For there to be an announcement made in June 2015 about his return to the field and nothing mentioned of rape charges (that he would stand trial for in a few weeks after), I’m disturbed.

Still waiting on more information though. I’m sure it’ll be forthcoming.

So after I posted this on Twitter, this is a response I received.

See……..

Now. It could be the whole “innocent until proven guilty” thing. Okay. BUT. Going off the info you had, (1) he wasn’t welcomed back to Boise State for some reason you allegedly weren’t aware of, plus (2) being indicted for rape….

Ehhhhh..
