Rachel Canning Leaves Home, Sues Parents

I am just too done.  Really, I am.  This right here is mind boggling.

I’m gonna start off with giving the “official” story here.  And then I’ll add my commentary at the end.

From The Huffington Post:

Rachel Canning, of New Jersey, is suing her parents for immediate financial assistance and for help with college tuition after she says she was kicked out of the house and cut off financially. Canning, 18, who is currently living with a friend, wants a judge to declare that because she has not been emancipated from her parents, she is still dependent on them and in need of their financial support, according to New Jersey outlet The Daily Record.

However, her parents say they did not abandon her. Rather, they say she voluntarily moved out after refusing to follow their rules.

“We love our child and miss her. This is terrible. It’s killing me and my wife. We have a child we want home. We’re not draconian and now we’re getting hauled into court,” father Sean Canning told the outlet. “She’s demanding that we pay her bills but she doesn’t want to live at home and she’s saying ‘I don’t want to live under your rules.'”

The teen, who reportedly wants to become a biomedical engineer, has been accepted to several colleges so far. The University of Vermont, where she has been offered a $20,000 scholarship, is her first choice, according to CBS New York.

John Inglesino, the father of Rachel’s best friend, is funding the lawsuit. He told the outlet that he wants to make sure the teen is able to attend the university of her choice. However, Rachel’s father says his daughter is being misled.

“I know Rachel is a) a good kid, b) an incredibly rebellious teen, and she’s getting some terrible information,” Sean Canning told the outlet.

A hearing on the matter is taking place on Tuesday.

Just to make sure I’m understanding this correctly, let me recap.  Teen doesn’t like the rules at home, so she decides to leave.

COOL.

After this LEGAL ADULT decides to leave because SHE CAN’T DEAL WITH RULES, she moves in with her friend’s parents.

COOL.

But after she  LEAVES HOME BECAUSE SHE CAN’T TAKE THE RULES, she SUES her parents for tuition to go to the PRIVATE school, and wants an ALLOWANCE!?

Oh.  And the family she is living with….the FATHER is financing this lawsuit AGAINST HER PARENTS!? When she VOLUNTARILY left home!?

Do I have this straight (I know I said I’d wait until the end, but…I lied)?

Anyway, let’s continue on with new information from ABC News:

A New Jersey family court judge ruled today that Rachel Canning’s parents do not have to pay her high school tuition after she sued them to cover her schooling and living costs.

The judge delayed a ruling on whether the parents must pay the 18-year-old student’s college tuition while asking lawyers to consider whether it’s wise to “establish precedent where parents live in fear of establishing rules of the house?”

YOU’RE GOT DAYUM RIGHT!!!!!!! You live HERE! You follow THESE rules! And if you decide to be grown enough to leave, then be grown enough to take care of yourself!

The judge also denied her request for weekly allowance and additional financial support including attorney fees.

OOP!

She claims that her parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning, kicked her out of their Lincoln Park house when she turned 18 in October, which they deny. Dad Sean Canning says she left voluntarily because she didn’t want to follow their house rules concerning curfew and chores.

“Private school, new car, college education; that all comes with living under our roof,” he told ABC News station WABC-TV.

His lawyer, reading from a statement before the start of this afternoon’s hearing, said the Cannings “are distraught that their oldest daughter feels that litigation is a better option than living together as a family.”

“To be clear, my clients never abandoned nor abused their child and they have asked her to come home,” Laurie Rush-Masuret said.

I just…

Rachel Canning said in court documents, “My parents simply will not help me any longer. They want nothing to do with me and refuse to even help me financially outside the home although they certainly have the ability to do so. … I am unable to support myself and provide for my food, shelter, clothing, transportation and education.”

HOLD UP HOLD UP HOLD UP! So…you’re grown enough to be independent, but not really?  BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  Looks like a dependent to me!!!!!

She needs a tough lesson on entitlement and adulthood (since she’s so grown).  Going to a private high school is expensive.  Guess what happens in the real world when you can’t afford your lifestyle?  You have to cut back.  So ma’am.  Looks like you need to swiftly withdraw from that high dolla school.

Guess what happens in the real world when you can’t afford basic needs?  You get to WORK!  So Miss. Rachael, looks like you need to go and get a job, Sweetie!

And guess what happens in the real world when you don’t have enough money to pay for school?  You get to apply for loans!  Let me help you out —-> Fafsa.ed.gov.

I ABSOLUTELY agree with this ruling.  And judging from all of this it seems like her spoiled behind needs a swift kick in it by the real world.

P.S.  Black kids, DO. NOT. TRY. THIS.
