1,000 Women Sign Petition, Want Girls Included In “My Brother’s Keeper”

And my message to ALLLLLLLLLL 1,000 of these women is:

HAVE. ALL. OF. THE. SEATS.

Choose your seat and SIT. DOWN. SIS.

All of you.

Are you kidding me?? This is absolutely ridiculous and quite shameful.

If you aren’t aware of what this White House initiative is:

President Obama launched the My Brother’s Keeper initiative to address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and ensure that all young people can reach their full potential.

Through this initiative, the Administration is joining with cities and towns, businesses, and foundations who are taking important steps to connect young people to mentoring, support networks, and the skills they need to find a good job or go to college and work their way into the middle class.

I’m in complete agreement with Roland Martin, here:

For FIVE YEARS the White House has had an Office on Women and Girls. So why aren’t these women making the case to focus on Black girls there?

Roland Martin spoke with Politic365.com’s Lauren Victoria Burke about this petition.  Check out the interview below:

“If any of these people have been to a graduation they know it’s a huge disparity and it’s all women. We see that the men need the help more than the women. I’m surprised at this letter,” she says.

ABSOLUTELY!  What I want women to do is to stop ignoring the FACTS, just for the sake of being included.  I hate it. It is a FACT that our minority male youth are suffering.  It is a FACT that SOMETHING needs to be done that targets them.

Why can’t we uplift, support, and encourage men who have been charged and challenged with this responsibility?  Why do we have to turn this into a negative thing?

I understand wanting girls and women to be on an even playing field when it comes to careers, etc. But the longer we ignore the FACT that young men and women have different needs, the longer we will be in the situation that we’re in now.

“My Brother’s Keeper” is a much needed initiative that focuses on minority male youth.  As it should. Deal with it.
