Did Wendy Davis go too far with her political ad?

Some are saying yes, she did. Wendy Davis’ opponent, republican candidate Greg Abbott, is wheelchair bound after an accident.  In 1984, he was jogging in River Oaks in Houston, and an oak tree fell on him (source).

Well, this is a recent ad Wendy Davis campaign put out.

Whew.

I will admit. It is….something.

I cringed. Then I thought about the message.  Buuuut then I rewatched and I cringed again.

So what do you all think? Is she making fun of his disability? Or is she effectively making a point?

Baylor Nation Reacts to “The Kick”

So. I’m a Baylor Bear (if you couldn’t tell).

And this past Saturday, I went through a plethora of emotions watching the Baylor v. TCU game. I seriously thought I was going to pass out at some point.

But remembering this was helpful:

SEE!? It’s BIBLICAL!

Well, we all know how that game turned out, but here is a video of the reactions from *cue dramatic music* “The Kick”…

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!

Y’all this just made me sooooo hype for real.

Look at Baylor turning up! YASSSSS!

I’ll see y’all for homecoming!

Sic ’em!

Sic EVERYBODY!

Personal Struggle: Trusting Him

Yup! Here I am again! Some lessons God just has to keep on teaching your girl!

I made a huge step in regard to my future this week (more details on that later, maybe!), and as soon as I did, I was attacked by my good friend, anxiety.

It was one of the most severe attacks (that’s dramatic but y’all know what I mean) that I’ve ever experienced!

Earlier this week, my morning devotion spoke on going through tough times, and how our father wants us to come to Him during those tough times. It also spoke on how it displeases him when we complain to others instead, because it so often leads to other places where He doesn’t want us to go.

After experiencing yet another anxious episode yesterday/last night, I literally begged God to help! This, coupled with some good feedback from a GREAT friend (love you so much!), and relaxation techniques helped a lot.

But when I woke up and read what my devotion said this morning:

20141010_065314

3 Trust in the Lord and do good;

dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.

 – Psalm 37: 3-6

19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

– Philippians 4:19

Like…WHAT!?!?

Y’all….this was so powerful for me!

Feelings of inadequacy and incompetence, projecting myself in the future, wondering what if this happens? What if it doesn’t happen? What will I do? What will I say?

This is EXACTLY what I was experiencing! And look at that.

I’m sharing this because maybe it’ll help someone else like it helped me. So many times we may worry so much about the future, until we aren’t living fully in the present. And in that, we may forget that the key is to trust God FULLY, no matter what.

In case you’re wondering where this devotional came from, here it is.  It was (obviously!) a gift to me and it has been such a blessing.

He’s got IT!

He’s got ME!

He’s got YOU!

Trust him!

Phaedra Parks is officially divorcing her repeat offender felonious husband (Apollo Nida)

I’m sure none of us are shocked by this.

To be honest, I felt like she was about to end it even if he didn’t go to jail. Last season it just looked like (to me) Phaedra didn’t see it for Apollo.

Phaedra Parks is pulling the plug on her marriage to Apollo Nida.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star “has retained an attorney with the intent of amicably ending her marriage,” her rep, Steve Honig, exclusively confirms to E! News in a statement. Last month, Nida checked himself in to prison to begin an eight-year sentence which was issued in July following his guilty plea to bank fraud back in May.

This is the second long-term prison stay for Nida, who was incarcerated for six years between 2003 and 2009 for car theft charges.

The former couple has two children under the ages of four, sons Dylan and Ayden.

WELP!

The story goes on to say that Apollo mainly wants to know if Phaedra is gonna give him some coins (he has to pay restitution).

BYE, APOLLO!

Pastor discloses he has AIDS, has slept with women in the church, and…MORE

This guy here? He was doing THEEEEE most. I mean WOW.

So last month the (former!) pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (Montgomery, Alabama), Juan Demetrius McFarland, announced to his church that he has full blown AIDS, and has known since 2008.

But that’s not all:

“The church was very accepting of Reverend McFarland and was willing to help him in any way possible,” a church member, who wanted to remain unnamed, explained.

Once the pastor, with 23 years of leadership, started revealing more and more on the following Sundays, members and leaders say they realized he had crossed the line.

In a resolution read aloud at the church, leaders shared, and Pastor McFarland confirmed to WSFA 12 News, that he admitted to drug use and mishandling of church funds. And there was what members say was the ultimate shocker, described by church deacon Nathan Williams Jr.

“He concealed from the church that he had knowingly engaged in adultery in the church building with female members of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church while knowingly having AIDS,” Williams said.

McFarland was removed as church pastor on Oct. 5. Still, church members say some congregation members are afraid to come forward and many others are concerned.

So. Let me get this straight, sir.

You have AIDS, abusing drugs, have misused church funds, and have been sleeping with women members INSIDE. OF. THE. CHURCH. BUILDING!?!?!

Does that about cover it all?

BRUH.

“Who does this to people, and you are the leader? Who does this?” another unnamed church member asked.

“I know a young lady who is a member of the church who says she has slept with him and that she didn’t want this to go public, and she running out now trying to find out if there is anything wrong with her,” the member explained. “And my heart goes out to her because she’s been a wonderful church member, and then for something like this to happen. The fact that he didn’t tell them at all. That’s a crime in itself.”

The unnamed church member went on, “And I’m hoping by doing this interview that she will see that she can come and talk to someone and her name or whatever will not be revealed. And maybe she can have some peace by coming forward and not the shame that goes along with it.”

Deacon Williams says he’s been a member of the church for 70 years, and this is the biggest scandal the church has ever experienced.

“He confessed to the entire membership and then to the City of Montgomery, because as soon as he got done confessing, it went all over Montgomery anyway,” Williams said. “So it’s nothing we [are] making up. It’s coming out of his mouth.”

Um. If I was that woman I wouldn’t say a word either! This speaker is delusional if she thinks that woman isn’t going to be met with any kind of shaming. Nah…she needs to take some time and get herself together first cause there’s sure to be some judgment from a church mutha or two. After that, then if she chooses to disclose, okay. Right now I’d think she would want to take care of what she needs to take care of though.

I commend the church leaders for handling this in a classy way.  This is a major blow to them and they are trying to move forward with (seemingly) as little drama as possible.

Just want to make a quick note here:

I know this will be seen as an opportunity for those to say, “See? The church isn’t perfect!”  Let me help you out with that. NOPE. It isn’t.  I have seen some behavior displayed by people within the church that I’ve never seen outside of it. But. Neither the pastor nor the members are my reason for going. I’m not saying people shouldn’t be held accountable. They ABSOLUTELY MUST be. But I AM saying that church members, clergy, deacons, etc. all have one thing in common. We’re human. We’re sinners. We ARE going to mess up. This is why it’s important to be firm in why you’re attending in the first place and to not let human behavior shake the REAL reason for worship.

*steps off soapbox*

That’s all I’ve got on this one.  Whew.
