I was having a pleasant time sitting in the spa sipping on a mimosa, when an article was suggested to me. Almost everything that had been done previously to attain ultimate relaxation was almost destroyed. Almost.
The title of said article is “The typical black church is still acting like slaves.” —> http://goo.gl/b7BKrH
I honestly don’t know where to start with this one. I guess I could start with suggesting a few different titles for this piece of work.
1. “The Black Church Hurt Me and Now I’m Mad About It”
2. “I’ve Started Going to a White Church and I Like It: But I Feel Judged So Here”
3. “I Don’t Want To Go To Church Anymore.”
Listen. This piece of writing has put ALL black churches in a category (getting hyped up, preacher not really saying anything, not doing any work outside of church) and ALL white churches in another (actually learning about their relationship with God, being quiet, and listening). What a bunch of bull. I’m serious. I’ve been to churches that are predominately white and ones that are predominately black. Not ALL black churches are “loud” and not ALL white churches are “quiet.” And not all black preachers who whoop are just saying a bunch of nothing!? Are you kidding me!?
And if I want to go to a place where people believe in worship…that makes me not having a real relationship with God? That makes me a slave? That means I am ONLY going to church to get excited? No. How about I am going to a place where people are being OBEDIENT to the word of God, for Psalm 150 says…
1 Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
We were CREATED to praise God. The church back in the day was NOT quiet! Praising and shouting unto the Lord is a COMMAND given to us by God. People were running! Shouting! You DO know about David, right? And you know that if you so choose to sit back and not say anything a rock WILL cry out in your place. WHEW!
Stop blaming the black church on everything. Take responsibility for you lack of doing what needs to be done outside of the sanctuary. I really am sick of that. If you choose to go to church, understand that the church, in and of itself, is NOT responsible for solving ALL of your problems. It just isn’t. It is to draw you in closer relationship with the one who CAN solve all of your problems. Seriously, cut this out.
Are there churches who are lacking impacting the community? Absolutely. ALL “typical (what is this!?)” black churches? NOPE. And I love how he blames the “typical” black church for many blacks not doing well financially, etc. There are MANY MANY MANY other layers to that issue. Too much for THIS post tho.
AND, if you don’t like the way worship is done at a particular church…GO TO ANOTHER ONE! But what you DON’T do, is put ALL of one type of church in a narrow and insulting category. That’s what you aren’t gonna do.
I’m glad he did that little amendment, too, because…I mean just WOW. Ridiculous.
I think I’m done.
Peace.
